چکیده

We derive shape-independent limits to the spectral radiative heat-transfer rate between two closely spaced bodies, generalizing the concept of a black body to the case of near-field energy transfer. Through conservation of energy and reciprocity, we show that each body of susceptibility χ can emit and absorb radiation at enhanced rates bounded by |χ|/ Imχ, optimally mediated by near-field photon transfer proportional to 1/d across a separation distance d. Dipole–dipole and dipole–plate structures approach restricted versions of the limit, but common large-area structures do not exhibit the material enhancement factor and thus fall short of the general limit. By contrast, we find that particle arrays interacting in an idealized Born approximation (i.e., neglecting multiple scattering) exhibit both enhancement factors, suggesting the possibility of orders-of-magnitude improvement beyond previous designs and the potential for radiative heat transfer to be comparable to conductive heat transfer through air at room temperature, and significantly greater at higher temperatures.

Thermal Analysis of Convective-Radiative Fin with Temperature-Dependent Thermal Conductivity Using Chebychev Spectral Collocation Method

In this paper, the Chebychev spectral collocation method is applied for the thermal analysis of convective-radiative straight fins with the temperature-dependent thermal conductivity. The developed heat transfer model was used to analyse the thermal performance, establish the optimum thermal design parameters, and also, investigate the effects of thermo-geometric parameters and thermal conducti...

Electrically - ' lnable Near - Field Heat Transfer with Ferroelectric Materials

Radiative heat transfer at small separations can be enhanced by orders of magnitude via the use of surface phonon polariton or plasmon polariton waves. This enhancement has potential applications in different devices, such as thermal emitters, thermal rectifiers, thermophotovoltaic and thermoelectric energy conversion systems. In this thesis, the author explores the tunable optical properties o...

Stable states in the radiant heat transfer of the near field for two parallel slabs

In this paper, we study the dynamics of the radiative heat transfer of between two slabs. In these systems, depending on the type of slabs and the thermal interaction they have with their surroundings, they can have one or several stable states in the phase space. It can be seen that in these systems, quantities such as distance and thickness affect the states of these systems. We show that the...
